Youth Ministry Update – January 2021
Ten members of the youth group participated in the first-ever Great YOUth@Third Baking Show’s Gingerbread Nativity Scene Contest on Sunday, December 13! The young contestants were given 72 hours to make a Nativity scene using a kit of gingerbread that included five rectangular slabs and cut-out cookies of the members of the Holy Family. Participants were also provided with a bag of meringue and a bag of confectioners’ sugar, along with directions for making royal icing. Contestants could work together with friends and siblings but were not allowed to receive adult help in the process. They could add other elements to their gingerbread Nativity scene, as long as those elements were edible! Some youth experimented with crystalized sugar, pasta, oatmeal, and cereal in their finished pieces.
Each young participant brought a fresh and creative take on the birth of Christ. Pictured here is the winning entry, which included a small red doghouse (and a marshmallow Snoopy) for the birthplace of Christ!
The youth of Third Church have regular opportunities to gather online in twice-monthly, interest-based clubs on a variety of topics including science, LGBTQ+ issues, creation care, drama, and the college search process.
