Alfred joined Third Church in September 2025 as the Director of Children’s and Youth Ministry, following his service in a similar role at the Presbyterian Church in Geneva, NY. He brings many years of experience in youth ministry and church leadership. Alfred is passionate about walking alongside children, youth, and their families as they grow in faith, helping them connect their faith with everyday life.
Alfred holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree (Accounting and Finance) from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana, a Master of Divinity from Columbia Theological Seminary, Atlanta, GA, and a Master of Arts in Religion (Hebrew Bible/OT Studies) from Yale University Divinity School, New Haven, CT. His academic and ministry journey reflects a deep commitment to justice.
As a researcher, Alfred’s work engages the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament and African studies. His research explores themes of power, politics, and identity formation in ancient Israel, particularly in relation to slavery, colonization, racial imperialism, forced labor, and displacement. His scholarship continues to inform his ministry, offering fresh ways to connect Scripture with issues of justice and hope in our world today.
Before moving to the United States, Alfred served in multiple leadership roles within the Presbyterian Church of Ghana’s Youth Ministry. From 2017 to 2019, he was also one of Mission 21’s Youth Ambassadors for Africa through the Basel Mission in Switzerland. In that capacity, he represented African youth in several international gatherings, including the Summer School on Peace and Justice in Wuppertal, Germany (2019); the Intercontinental Assembly on Intercultural Engagement in Basel, Switzerland (2018); and the General Council Meeting of the World Communion of Reformed Churches in Leipzig, Germany (2017).
Alfred and his wife, Jennifer, live in Greece, NY, with their daughter, Eliora. In his free time, Alfred enjoys watching soccer, baking, and writing, and he hosts a podcast exploring topics ranging from faith and education to society and culture.
