Just Who Was Lilian Alexander? And exactly what is the Lilian Alexander Circle? It’s more than you might think!

For some old timers, a “church circle” conjures images having to do with sewing and/or women, and we might pull back on reading further if we don’t fit into either category. But you may just be surprised!

For anyone who has found a spiritual home in Third Presbyterian Church, the Lilian Alexander Circle is for you. Ordinary folk who call this place “home” and want to help ensure future generations will also find a place of spiritual nurture and rest within the Third Church community, can become members of the Lilian Alexander Circle (LAC), with ANY size gift to the church in your will or estate planning. The LAC is not an elite membership, but made up of people like yourself who seek to support Third Church into the future.

So just who was Lilian Alexander? Lilian was a Third Church member and Elder in 1953, and the first Presbyterian in history to bring forth a proposal for ordination of women in our denomination. Lilian cared deeply for the future of the church, a future that included women like our very own Rebecca and Emily, and all the women in our pulpit in years past. In 1956, our General Assembly passed this overture for
Presbyterians. We are direct recipients of Lilian’s vision and gift to the future.
