thirdArts Connects People Through the Medium of Music

One of the many beauties of music is its ability to be both secular and sacred. Music can be given in worship to the Glory of God and can also sit comfortably in the concert arena. thirdArts is our concert series designed to examine the connection between the sacred and secular, to explore repertoire that might not be designed for a worship service, and to connect with people outside of our own church family by presenting sacred music in a new light, for a new audience.

Rochester is filled with wonderful music, world class ensembles, and a rich history of first-rate musicians. thirdArts seeks to involve these people—who may not be associated with Third Church, or with any church—in hearing and creating the beautiful music we enjoy in Third Church’s music program.  Read More.

Over the last few thirdArts seasons, we have welcomed over 100 different singers and musicians and performed a wide array of repertoire and styles in both formal and informal concerts, in the backdrop of the Third Church Sanctuary. Last year, when all concerts were online due to the pandemic, we reached hundreds of new people from our city and beyond through the medium of music. Last year’s livestreamed and recorded concerts have been viewed between 300 and 725 times each. The Faure’s Requiem virtual community sing alone attracted nearly 75 non-Third Church participants.

Please join us for events this fall—October 27, 3:00pm; November 21, 3:00pm; and December 19, 3:00pm— as we welcome old and new faces to perform at Third Church. We are grateful for all the support we have received, thankful to everyone who has participated or attended virtually, and are deeply indebted to the Janet S. and David B. Reed Fund, which has made many of these programs possible.
