Family Promise/RAIHN Tutors Wanted
Help respond to educational inequity in Rochester! Third Presbyterian Church is now working with Family Promise (formerly RAIHN) to provide academic tutoring to the children of families who have been recently housed. Do you feel called to become a volunteer tutor? Students are in grades K-12 and need help in all subjects. We’d like to recruit all new volunteers by late April, and for tutoring to begin in early May. We plan to pause in June and then continue during the summer, based upon need.
As a volunteer tutor, you will be a part of a child’s support network that includes the child’s parent, caseworker, teacher, and our program’s tutoring coordinator. You will meet with this network before meeting your tutee. Tutoring can be done virtually or in person (with masks). If you opt to meet in person it will be at the Family Promise Office at 142 Webster Ave, corner of Webster and Parsells Ave. (The office has ample parking and does not require stairs). On nice days, you may choose to work together outdoors in the garden area.
You may choose what hours are most convenient for you, and your student’s case worker will coordinate schedules with your tutee.
If you are interested, please contact Melanie Jones at mjones@thirdpresbyterian.org. Specify the times you are available and the age group you would like to work with. Upon application you will undergo a mandatory background check (at our expense) for your application to be complete. We look forward to having you, and so do the leaders of tomorrow.
