Sunday Seminar: Welcoming the Stranger

August 13 @ 9:00 am - 9:45 am

Hospitality and the Stranger: Welcoming the Divine
This four-week Seminar series will respond to videos from The Work of the People. Each video stands alone, so you need not attend the whole series.

In ancient cultures, the stranger was someone in whom hospitality was extended. To welcome the stranger was to welcome the company of the divine. This series of videos is about those we might consider other, stranger, foreigner, and alien. These are the people often on the margins of society, and treated as such. They might be migrants, those who are of different religious or cultural backgrounds, those who live in neighborhoods of different social economic classes, those who simply look, act, and behave differently.

August 13: Welcoming the Stranger (Every Nation, Tribe, People, and Language)
Seminary professor Juan Martinez talks about the movements of people across lands. This movement is often motivated by a type of safety, security, and hope for a better future. However, when this movement is perceived as hostile, fear emerges and walls, both real and psychological, are erected. How are these reactions antithetical to the work of God in the world?

Join us in person in Johnston Hall or Online.
