Colonization versus Sustainability of Human and Natural Communities: Case Study in Palestine

Rochester Witness for Palestine and the Justice for Palestine Committee of the Syracuse Peace Council are pleased to present this critical discussion by Dr. Mazin Qumsiyeh on Saturday, January 29 at 3 p.m. EST.

Professor Qumsiyeh is the founder, volunteer director, and professor of the Palestine Institute for Biodiversity and Sustainability (PIBS) at Bethlehem University. Dr. Qumsiyeh is a Professor at both Bethlehem and Birzeit Universities. He will discuss the work he and his staff are doing to promote sustainability in the context of Israeli colonization and how their task informs the work ahead of us all.

Dr. Qumsiyeh has published over 160 scientific papers, over 30 book chapters, and several books on topics ranging from cultural heritage to human rights to biodiversity conservation to cancer. He serves on the board of a number of Palestinian youth and service organizations (see also http://qumsiyeh.org) and oversees many projects related to sustainability of human and natural communities. He is a winner of the Paul K. Feyerabend Award and the Takreem Award, among others. His regular reports from Palestine reach an email audience of 50,000.
