Book Discussion around Lent in Plain Sight

If you are doing the Lenten read of this book, (or if you want to learn more about it) join us for conversation on the book so far.  As we think about the ten objects in the book, we will discuss the season of Lent and the role this season has not only in the rhythms of church life, but also the rhythm of our own lives.  Please bring a favorite cross that you own as a way to share a story of introduction in our time together.

Calvin Guild
Wednesday, March 18, 12:00noon, Johnston Hall

Local environmental activist, William Bross, will give a brief overview of the science of climate change, followed by a discussion of practical actions we can take as individuals and as a congregation to stop climate change.  Mr. Bross is a member of several local and national environmental groups, and has recently helped found Rochester Area Interfaith Climate Action (RAICA). All are welcome. Some people attend Calvin Guild most months, and others come occasionally when interested in the topic.  Please RSVP by Friday, March 13th to Tracy Beeler at t19jb@outlook.com or 585-645-5131  The cost for the catered soup and sandwich lunch is $8.

Families with Young Children
Friday, March 20, 5:30-7:30pm, Johnston Hall

Families will share a pizza meal first and then break into two groups: kids entertained by babysitters in the education building, and adults remaining in Johnston Hall for conversation. Based on feedback at our first meeting, we’ll orient our discussion around some potential resources for exploring issues of parenting and faith formation with young children.

We ask that each family contribute $5 per child for childcare, and $5 per adult for pizza.

Please RSVP to Ben Baker (bensbaker@gmail.com) by Friday, March 13th, so we can confirm enough babysitters and order the right amount of food. We’ll also distribute some discussion materials via email the week of our meeting. If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact Ben or Rachel Norton (rnorton@thirdpresbyterian.org). We look forward to spending time together!
