To Volunteer @ Third

Why Volunteer? Service is an important part of who we are as Christians, and our volunteers find that it feels good when they help others. If you are new to the community or to the church, volunteering is a great way to become acquainted.

Short or Long Term? Some volunteer opportunities are for short term needs, while others are longer term. Please contact the individuals listed for more information.

Senior Visitation Ministry

When your schedule allows

Approximately 50 senior members of our congregation are unable to attend worship on Sunday for a variety of reasons. In an attempt to reach out to our shut-in members, this ministry links a volunteer to a member of our church family who is confined to home, a nursing home, or an assisted living facility with a monthly visit.

Contact: Pam Foye or Rev. Deborah Hughes (271-6513).

 Outreach

Christmas Baskets

During Advent

Each year we deliver Christmas food baskets to needy families, and buy, wrap, and bring in an Angel Tree gift for needy children.

Ushers

One Sunday a month (or sign up to be a substitute)

Ushering is a great way to be a part of Third Church - welcoming members and visitors alike. Every week ushers work in the background helping to get the chapel and sanctuary ready for the Sunday services.

  • Ushers hand out bulletins, have activity bags for young children and large print bulletins and bibles for those people who may need them.
  • We take the offering
  • We record the service in the sanctuary and the deacons then make copies for those people unable to attend
  • Finally, we tidy up the chapel and sanctuary so they are ready for the next service
  • Ushers normally arrive thirty minutes before the service starts and stay for fifteen minutes once it has finished
  • Ushers sign up for one Sunday a month; we have a list of substitute ushers and we can hold informal training for anyone who wants it.

Contact: Robert Veitch (865-9918).
