| Are you kind
and patient?
Do you love children?
The students at school #6 need you! Work with them on
teacher directed activities. Working one on one, tutors
and students develop a stable and caring relationship.
Tutors meet
with students, for 45 minutes each, once a week during
the school day, mid-October through early June.
Tutoring
takes place in the school library. School #6 is located
at Upper Falls Boulevard and Hudson Avenue in Northeast
Rochester.
The Volunteer
Tutoring Program has been at school #6 since 1986. Each
year approximately 25 tutors work with about 80 students.
Several tutors come in more than one day a week. Substitute
tutors are available to fill in for absent tutors.
The school's teachers
are supportive of the program, even though it makes more
work for them, because it results in the academic and
emotional growth of their students.
Tutors are all ages and come from various
backgrounds. Third Presbyterian Church, in partnership
with School #6, supports the program financially and with
volunteers. Tutors also come from other churches and community
resources.
Join fellow Third
Churchers as a regular or substitute tutor in is highly
successful program. You'll have a ball!
The program is administered by Sue Maddock, a part-time
coordinator. For more information contact:
