| SEM is a covenant of 21 churches located in the Southeast
area of Rochester. SEM is pledged to serving the elderly, disabled
and poor living in this area and has been serving this area
since 1969. Every year there has been an increase in the number
of people served. In 2004 the Food Cupboard served 3073 people
and SEAFISH provided transportation for 1826 rides. In 2005,
SEM became an affiliate of Foodlink, receiving administrative
assistance and serving as a model for other Food agencies.
The SEM office and Food Cupboard are located at St. Paul’s
Episcopal Church on East Avenue.
SEM’s programs include:
Emergency Food Program
A need for many in our community is
a source of emergency food. Families or individuals often need
assistance until their first
paycheck arrives, or their aid program begins. Our Food Cupboard
fills this need. Caseworkers from many agencies are on call to
deliver emergency food to clients and to assist them in obtaining
needed services.
Supplemental Basket Program
The Food Cupboard provides monthly
food baskets for low income seniors and medically disabled
individuals whose limited income
cannot stretch far enough to provide shelter, medicine and nutritious
food. Over 150 people are served each month. Half of the program
is managed through the partnership with the Brighton Food Depot.
CHAPP ( Community Health and Pharmacy Partnership).
SEM piloted
this new program in the summer of 2001 with the help of a local
pharmacy. This relief effort is designed to assist individuals
with necessary medicine and/or items available through the
pharmacy, while the staff assists in obtaining the appropriate
insurance
or other assistance as needed.
The Companionship Program
SEM
has received a grant to explore partnerships with others while
expanding regular services to
include companionship, linking families through sponsorship
SEA-FISH Transportation

Here provides a number of services to low income senior citizens
and medically disabled

anyone would do for a neighbor when a simple need for help
arises:
