Katrina Relief Efforts

Helping New Orleans Recover

"...for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me,"
Matthew 25:36

Rochester Help to New Orleans (RH2NO) grew from the help that people in Rochester wanted to give to those people in New Orlean whose lives were devastated by hurricane Katrina in 2005. Third Presbyterian Church members have joined with other community groups to send work teams and supplies to help the residents of New Orleans.

Annual Report for 2010
2010 was an active year for the RH2NO ministry! Seven mission trips were launched engaging 70 volunteers working in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity and Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. Several churches collaborated efforts for mission teams, and other work groups were sponsored from the community, including Nazareth College and Monroe Community College.

A group of 24 volunteers departed for New Orleans on August 29, 2010, the 5th Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. They began their adventure with a 10am community-wide ecumenical worship service at the Greater Rochester International Airport highlighted via local newscasts and an extended story in the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle.

Susan Orr completed her work with RH2NO at the end of July but continued to maintain functions until the new leadership of Sally Altobello was secured on November 10, 2010.
