Changes during construction

FOOD CUPBOARD MOVES TO THE EDUCATION BUILDING
(see photos of the move - click here)

An important change in the Food Cupboard location has been made necessary for this coming year. Because the whole central elevator section of the church building will be under construction, and extensive re-modeling of the Kitchen and Celebration Center, it will be impossible for our Food Cupboard to access its storage areas or receive guests.

So, beginning on Monday, March 1,2010, the whole Food Cupboard operation will take place in the large "Blue" room at the end of the basement of the Education Building. This is the three-year-old Sunday School room. Bulk storage and the supply shelves are now located in the kitchenette and storage closet off the Blue Room. We continue to share the room with the Sunday School.

It is probably not well known, but there are two doors into the Chapel directly off Arnold Park, One door, "the Playground Door," is between the Education Building and the Chapel. It is reached by walking through the gate and the Nursery School playground. This entrance is used by the Nursery School parents and children. Team members and Sunday and Tuesday re-stockers will reach the Food Cupboard through this entrance. They have been given the key pad number to use if the door is locked.

The other Arnold Park Chapel entrance, closer to East Avenue, the "Bride's Door" leads directly into the Chapel Hallway.

In order to avoid Nursery School traffic problems, our Food Cupboard guests will use this "Bride's" entrance. They will be met by a volunteer who will direct them through the Chapel to the stairs leading to the Education Building Food Cupboard.

Our Food Cupboard will continue to serve needy people in zip codes 4, 7 and 20 at this new location until the church construction is completed.

We send special thanks to the nine volunteers who planned and carried out this transition, and to the many other volunteers who keep our Food Cupboard going. More volunteers are always needed, If you can be available once each month from 9:30 to 11:45 am on either Monday or Thursday, please call Kay Ramsay at 544-9022 or e-mail: kramsay80@yahoo.com
