AIDS Rochester's Nutritional Programs
a.k.a. DAILY BREAD
For 11 years Third Presbyterian Church
has supported DAILY BREAD both financially and with volunteers.
Without this support, the program could never have developed
into such a vital service for over 600 individuals living
with HIV & AIDS in our community. Below are some ideas
how individuals can volunteer with DAILY BREAD.
FOOD PREPARATION
Volunteers are needed to assist with preparation,
serving and clean up of a congregate meal that is served
every Wednesday at lunchtime. Volunteers should be available
from 9am till 1:30pm. Volunteers usually sign up for one
or two Wednesdays a month. Under the direction of our
Food Program Manager, volunteers prepare a nutritious,
home cooked meal that serves 60 to 70 individuals. 6 to
8 volunteers assist each Wednesday then join us for the
meal, that increases socialization to individuals living
with HIV/AIDS. Groups can also reserve a Wednesday and
prepare the meal as a teambuilding event or family volunteer
day.
SPECIAL TALENTS
Volunteers with special talents like piano
playing, cake decorating, craft skills, etc…. are
always needed to help us make the Wednesday lunch program
fun and interesting. If you have a special talent and
are interested in sharing it, we would love to hear from
you.
FOOD DELIVERY BAG DECORATING
Each week we deliver meals to the homes
of individuals who are too ill to come to the lunch. Many
times these individuals are socially isolated and receiving
a bag of food that is brightly colored or seasonally decorated
can be a big pick-me-up. Volunteers or groups (especially
children's groups) are always welcomed to use their creativity
to make these brown paper bags as much fun as possible.
We can supply the bags.
