As a combined effort of Third Presbyterian Church and New
Life Presbyterian Church, the Corner Place, through
its programs and activities, seeks to build bridges between
neighbors and to provide an accessible meeting place for people
to come together in this southeast city neighborhood. |

Corner Place Annual Report
2007
This has been a pivotal year with the move to larger quarters
at 969 Monroe Avenue, offering an ambitious after-school jazz
program, and designing new literacy initiatives for adults
and families.

Tutoring
|
Moving into New Quarters
- Expanded from a single
room storefront to a bright and spacious second floor
with dedicated Music/Dance Room, Art Room, office, and
storage space
- 24 members from Third and New Life Churches
contributed more that 100 volunteer hours to complete moving
tasks and projects
- In-kind donations of more that $800 from
Corner Place supporters for new location’s needs
- May
Open House officially welcomes the community to our new
space

Literacy
- Formal partnership formed with the Monroe Branch Library
to:
- Develop adult literacy and family programs
- Provide pre-school story hours at the Corner Place
in November and December
- Designing curriculum for family literacy with assistance
from Alex Hagar (St. John Fisher)
- Designing story hour programs for RAIHN mothers and toddlers
at 34 Meigs St.

The Arts Academy:
- 3 terms of Arts Academy classes and summer class “You’re
Ready for Science”
- 7-week exploration of Jazz in Music, Dance and Art made
possible by a $4,000 grant from the Arts & Cultural
Council with additional in-kind support of $1,209
- Expanded participant base with children from 8 different
schools
- Music and dance performances in the sanctuary and on
the lawn at New Life Presbyterian Church
- “Jazz City Landscape” mural by 5-7-year-old
art class installed in the Corner Place Music Room
- “Jazz Musicians” mural by 8 to 12 year-olds
on loan to the Children’s Room of the Monroe Branch
Library
- Dance program expanded in fall term to capacity numbers

| How Can You Be Involved?The
success of the Corner Place depends upon small offerings of
time and talent from large numbers of people from our churches
and our community. We can use people for direct involvement
with children, youth and adults for as little as an hour or
