OCTOBER


Children's Evening Prayer - Sunday, October 2 at 7:00 pm, Third Church


Candlelight Chapel Concert I - Thursday, October 20 at 7:30 pm, Chapel
          (an offering will be received to support future concerts)

    This new series of four concerts throughout the year, will feature students from the Eastman School of Music's Early Music program, in recitals of music of the Renaissance and Baroque periods in authentic performance styles and on authentic instruments. All will be performed in the intimate beauty and wonderful acoustic of Third Church's Chapel - truly a Rochester treasure!

    The first concert will feature Manuel Minguillón, performing a program entitled "From Renaissance to Baroque": Music for vihuela, renaissance lute, baroque guitar and archlute. Music by Luis de Narvaez, Francesco da Milano, John Dowland, Gaspar Sanz, Giovanni Zamboni and others.

    The series of Candlelight Chapel Concerts is made possible in large part through the generosity of the David B. Reed Program Fund.


Organ Recital - Christian Lane - Thursday, October 27 at 8:00pm, Sanctuary

    Former TPC Assistant Organist Christian Lane returns to perform a varied program of organ music by Widor, Alain, Liszt, William Bolcom and Thierry Escaich on the 4-manual Austin organ in the sanctuary. Chris is currently serving as Assistant Organist at St. Thomas Church, Fifth Avenue, in New York. The program is free and open to the public.

Organ Recital - Eastman Students for EROI - Friday, November 4 at 7:30 pm - Chapel


DECEMBER


Candlelight Chapel Concert II - Thursday, December 1 at 7:30 pm, Chapel

    Evangelia Leontis, Soprano
    Manuel Minguillón, vihuela and lute

    Lute Songs. Songs for soprano from the Spanish, Italian, French and English renaissance. Music by Alonso Mudarra, PhilippeVerdelot, Pierre Guedron, John Dowland and others.


Special Music for Advent - Sunday, December 18 at 10:45 am, Sanctuary

    Chancel Choir, soloists, and orchestra present J. S. Bach's "Magnificat, BWV 243"

    Bach's exuberant treatment of this timeless text will help us in our preparation for the joyous Christmas event. This is some of the most celebrative of Bach's music, and wonderfully expresses the mystery and joy of Mary's Song from the book of Luke. Special note: A preview talk on the Bach Magnificat will be given the same morning by Scott Stratton-Smith during the Adult Education hour at 9:30 am.


JANUARY


Boar's Head and Yule Log Festival - Saturday, January 7, and Sunday, January 8 at 4:00 pm, Sanctuary


FEBRUARY


Candlelight Chapel Concert III - Thursday, February 9 at 7:30 pm, Chapel

    Nika Zlataric, baroque cello

    "Music for cello and basso continuo". Music by Johann Sebastian Bach, Giovanni Zamboni,Giuseppe Antonio Doni, Santiago de Murcia, Antonio Vivaldi and others.


MARCH


Alma College Choir Concert - Friday, March 3 at 7:30 pm, Sanctuary

    The Concert Choir from Presbyterian-related Alma College in Alma, Michigan, will present a wonderful evening of choral music in our Sanctuary, as they conclude their annual Spring Tour. The 58-voice choir is under the direction of Dr. Will Nichols, and we are delighted to welcome them to Third Church. A free-will offering will be received.


Candlelight Chapel Concert IV - Thursday, March 16 at 7:30 pm, Chapel
          (an offering will be received to support future concerts)

    Christine Hauptly, baroque violin
    Manuel Minguillón, baroque guitar and archlute

    The final program in this series will present "Music for Violin and Basso continuo". Music by Pietro Paolo Melij, Biagio Marini, Dario Castello, Arcangello Corelli and others.


Lenten Special Music - Sunday, March 26 at 10:45 am, Sanctuary

    Chancel Choir, soloists, and instrumental ensemble present John Rutter's "Requiem"

    This beautiful Requiem was written in 1985, and follows in the pattern established by Brahms and Fauré, setting a personal selection of texts rather than adhering strictly to the texts of the Roman Catholic Requiem Mass. It includes some of the traditional text, but also includes psalms and prayers from the Anglican Book of Common Prayer (1662). The choir and soloists will be accompanied by organ and a chamber instrumental ensemble.

Youth Music Concert - Friday, May 5 at 7:00 pm, Sanctuary

    Featuring the youth ensembles of Third Presbyterian Church


Music Recognition Sunday - Sunday, May 7 at 10:45 am, Sanctuary

    Recognition of all of the music groups at Third Presbyterian Church.


Choral Evensong at St. Andrew's Church - Sunday, May 7 at 4:00 pm

    The Chancel Choir and clergy of Third Church, with clergy from St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Church, will present this lovely service in the splendid acoustic of St. Andrew's Church, 923 Portland Avenue.


Tour of Religious Architecture in Rochester - Saturday, May 13, time TBA

    More details to follow!


Adult Education - Sundays, May 14 and 21 at 9:30 am

    Adult Education sessions on the relationship between architecture and faith, and the creation of "sacred space".


JUNE


Choral Evensong - Sunday afternoon, June 4 at 4:00 pm, Sanctuary

    This reflective liturgy, led by the Chancel Choir and clergy, is patterned after the services sung daily in English cathedrals and collegiate churches. It is full of music, scripture and prayer, and will be a fitting close to a full and diverse season of music and arts events at Third Church. A splendid tea, with all kinds of goodies will be served following.
