Mardi Gras Celebration 2001
Mardi Gras is a long-standing tradition at Third Church, celebrating the last day before the start of Lent. Mardi Gras in French means "Fat Tuesday", a name which historically marks a last day when shortening could be used in cooking, so people would use up their remaining shortening by feasting on pancakes.
At Third Church, we get together for some good times, complete with Dixieland music from the Meigs Street Ramblers, pancakes & syrup, and entertainment for kids of all ages. Sometimes we have a visit from Punch & Judy, sometimes a magician pulls some rabbits out of his hat, and sometimes a juggler thrills us with amazing stunts.
