“Blue” Christmas Worship
Monday, December 17, 7:00pm
The holidays can be a difficult time for those grieving the
loss of loved ones or who are experiencing other losses or concerns.
Especially at this time, when everything seems aglow and when others
seem filled with joy as they participate in parties and other celebrations,
those individuals and families who do not feel the “Joy of the
Season” may experience isolation, loneliness and depression.
This service is offered as a way to provide comfort and care to anyone
who is feeling “blue” during the holiday season. Led
by Jamie Kenyon, Pam Foye and Cecil Buchinger.
Christmas
Baskets 2007
Forty-five School #35 families and fifteen RAIHN families
will be the recipients of the 2007 Christmas Baskets. The biggest
change this year is that hams and turkeys are not being solicited
because the delivery date (December 16) is more than a week before
Christmas and storage is a logistical problem. Each family will be
receiving a TOPS market gift card (no Wegman stores are
near the recipient base).
Here’s how you can help!
Deliver baskets to families on Sunday, December
16. Contact Rose Pethick at 388-8546.
Cash gifts are always welcome. Make checks payable to Third Presbyterian
Church and note: “Christmas Baskets.” We have discovered
that we must order gift cards in bulk from
TOPS markets, thus we are asking for donations of $15.00 or $20.00
(for the larger families) in cash or check so that we can include
a gift card with each Christmas Basket.
Special Music in Worship
Sunday, December 16, 10:45am
The Chancel Choir will present early twentieth-century
composer Ottorino Respighi’s Laud to the Nativity as
its special music for Advent. Respighi, perhaps best known for his
orchestral works The Pines of Rome, Roman Festivals and
The Fountains of Rome, has created a lovely pastoral piece
for choir and wind ensemble. Its lush harmonies provide a beautiful
setting for the familiar story which includes the Angel’s
announcement of Christ’s birth, the shepherds’ arrival
at the stable and Mary’s cradle song. An offering will be
received to support future special music presentations.
Third Church Happy Bunch
Sunday, December 16, 4:00pm

Responding to Events at Virginia Tech
All of us have been deeply saddened by Monday's tragic shootings
in Blacksburg. The news stories seem all too familiar -- the fragility
of life, the painful reality of human brokenness, the all-too pervasive
and senseless nature of violence, and the search for meaning and hope.
We will continue to consider our ongoing response, but in the meantime,
you are invited to participate in the following:
We will send a book of prayers to the Presbyterian campus ministry
at Virginia Tech and supporting congregations. You may add your own
prayers to this book in two ways. 1 -- Come to the church office anytime
this week, or add your prayers following both worship services this
coming Sunday. 2 -- send an e-mail to dculhane@thirdpresbyterian.org.
Those e-mails will be compiled and added to the book.

the Greater Rochester Community of Churches are sponsoring a series
of five forums as follow-up to the Summit on Violence that was held

be held at Third Church on Thursday evening January 25 at 7:00pm in

Kenya Trip Informational Luncheon
Sunday, January 14, 2007
Robert Veitch and Associate Pastor for Church and Society, Rod Frohman,
will be sharing the details of their February 5 - 11, 2007, trip to
Nairobi, Kenya.
The purpose of the trip is to explore the possibilities of a church-to-church
partnership with one of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa congregations
in Nairobi. Preliminary correspondence has taken place through Rod’s
lifetime friend, Timothy Njoya, a Kenyan Presbyterian pastor and pro-democracy
activist. Rod and Robert will be staying at the General Assembly Guesthouse
in Nairobi and attending conference there sponsored by the Presbyterian
Church (U.S.A.) Kenya Network of Presbyterians to meet members of
other Presbyterian congregations who already have mission partnerships
established in Kenya. They will also spend some time talking with
Kenyan pastors and congregations.
Should Third Church establish a mission partnership in Kenya? What
should be the guidelines? How shall we go about establishing a partnership?
What exactly would be involved in a partnership? All of these and
other questions we will explore at the luncheon on Sunday, January
14. To reserve a space please contact Rod Frohman at rfrohman@thirdpresbyterian.org
or 271-6537, ext. 106.
