books of Joshua through II Chronicles, involving the conquest of the
land and rise and fall of the monarchy of David and Solomon and their
descendants.

Robert Westbrook, Professor of History at the University of Rochester
and cultural historian of liberal democracy, will examine the dramatic
changes in the American political landscape in the last half of the
20th century, focusing on the social developments and the cultural conflicts
that have occasioned it.

This course will feature lecture, group discussions, and DVD presentations.
Week 2: A Hindu-Christian Dialogue. Krishna of the Bhagavad Gita and
Jesus Christ have many things in common: both are truly God and truly
human, both teach that we are saved by grace through faith. How does
Christian Theology deal with this knotty issue?
Faculty: Sinnathamby Thevanesan (“Pastor
Theva” as he is known by his congregation of the Christ United
Methodist Church in Amherst, NY) was born and raised in Sri Lanka. He
has a B.D. from the University of Serampore, India, an M.A. from Colgate
Rochester Crozer Divinity School, and is an ordained United Methodist
Minister. In May 2007 he received the “Distinguished Alumni Award”
from Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School.
Youth Bell Festival

Bethany Presbyterian Church, 3000 Dewey Avenue
Third Church’s Youth Bell Choirs, the Covenant Ringers and Junior
High Bell Choir, will join with the youth bell choirs of Bethany Presbyterian
Church and Webster Presbyterian Church in a festive handbell concert.
Each choir will play individually and then join with the other choirs
in combined anthems. All are invited to come enjoy and celebrate the

We are organizing for our hosting week and need our capable cadre of
volunteers to select their roles and shifts now!

* Dinner/evening hosts
* Overnight hosts
* Breakfast preparers
* Take-down on the final Sunday of our host week
* Volunteer at the Day Center, 34 Meigs Street - Saturday only

* Laundry - and organizing our linen closet

VISITING YOUTH CHOIR
Sunday, June 8
The Epworth Chorale from the First United
Methodist Church (Cathedral of the Rockies) in Boise, Idaho, will lead
us in worship on Sunday, June 8, and present a brief concert of choral
and handbell music that day immediately following worship. This talented
group of youth in grades 9-12 tours annually, and we will be the first
stop on their 10-day tour of the Eastern US and Canada. Led by Paul
Aitken, the chorale sings weekly in worship services in
their home church as the resident choir for their 9:00am service. More
information on the group, and their visit with us, will be included
in next month's Messenger. Plan to be present on June 8th to hear this
wonderful choir!
HOST HOMES will be needed for the approximately
30 youth for Saturday evening, June 7. If you can host 2 or
more youth overnight and provide breakfast on Sunday morning, June 8,
please be in touch with Peter DuBois as soon as possible at 271-6537,
