Peter holds degrees in organ performance from the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, and the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, studying with artist-teacher David Craighead and with Robert Glasgow, respectively. Additional study has been with Marie-Claire Alain, Marie-Louise Langlais, and improvisation with Philippe Lefebvre during a sabbatical leave in 2001-2002. Peter maintains an active performing career, with recitals throughout the United States and abroad. Recitals abroad include performances at St. Paul’s Cathedral, London; Notre-Dame de Paris; the Basilica of Ste. Clotilde in Paris; and the Cathédrale du Saint-Saveur in Aix-en-Provence. Peter was 2nd place winner in the 1988 National Young Artists Competition in Organ Performance, sponsored by the American Guild of Organists (AGO), and 1st place winner in the 1987 Mid-Atlantic Regional Competition of the AGO. At Third Church, Peter serves as primary organist for the church, and directs the Chancel Choir and Covenant Singers (youth choir), as well producing and serving as musical director for biennial youth musicals. Recent productions have included Jesus Christ Superstar, Godspell, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and Pippin, among others. He coordinates music for services and provides general oversight and coordination for the church's expanding ministry of music and the arts, including arts festivals and exhibits. In recent years Peter has completed two compact disc recordings with the Chancel Choir, and one recording with the Covenant Singers and Senior High Ensemble. In the summer of 2001, he led the Chancel Choir of Third Church on their first international tour, a very successful trip that included spending a week as Choir-in-Residence at Rochester Cathedral (Kent, UK), and performing as well at Coventry and Salisbury Cathedrals. They returned to the UK in 2005 for an unforgettable trip to serve as Choir-in-Residence at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London for a week, with further travels and performances in Cambridge and York, England, as well as in Edinburgh, Scotland. More information about music and arts programming, choir recordings and tours may be found on the Music/Arts page at www.thirdpresbyterian.org/music.
