Christina A. Lenti - clenti@thirdpresbyterian.org

Chris is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music where she majored in piano performance. She taught piano for fifteen years at the Hochstein School of Music and maintained a private teaching studio in her home. Chris studied organ performance with David Craighead and Richard Erickson, and conducting with Donald Neuen at the Eastman School and James Jordan at Westminster Choir College. In addition, she has studied children's choirs with Helen Kemp, Henry Leck, John Horman, and others. Before coming to Third Church, Chris served as Organist and Director of Music at several area churches, including the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection and Incarnation Episcopal Church. She has given workshops in handbells and children's choir for various groups in the Rochester area including the American Guild of Organists and the Rochester Catholic Diocese. Currently she is teaching a course on conducting Handbell Choirs and Children’s Choirs for the Eastman School of music.

The primary responsibilities of the Associate Director of Music are with the music programs for children and youth. In this position, Chris directs three children's choirs, as well as five handbell groups. Chris also works closely with the Children’s Ministry Coordinator in all aspects of the children’s education program to be sure that the music program enhances and supports the efforts of Church School and the mid-week Qabats program. Chris directs a children’s musical every other year, and also takes the Junior Choir on a yearly summer choir retreat at Camp Cory. She enjoys working with the Meigs Street Ramblers, an intergenerational Dixieland band that plays at Mardi Gras and Rally Day. Chris also organizes and plans Monday Night Evening Prayer services, the Festival of the Nativity on Christmas Eve and other special musical presentations throughout the year.

The primary goal of the children's and youth music program is to teach young musicians about their Christian faith using hymns and anthems. The program also helps them understand and appreciate the rewards of weekly participation in worship as they offer their talents to God and to the faith community. Music can play an important role in the faith development of children and youth.
