Key Scriptures

The Beatitudes (Matthew 5:3-12)

  • Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
  • Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
  • Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
  • Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
  • Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.
  • Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
  • Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
  • Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
  • Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

The Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:1-17; Deuteronomy 4:6-21)

  3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
  4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
  5. Honor your father and your mother that your days may be long.
  6. You shall not kill.
  7. You shall not commit adultery.
  8. You shall not steal.
  9. You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
  10. You shall not covet.

The Twelve Disciples (Mark 3:16-19)

Simon Peter, Matthew, James, Thomas, John, James, Andrew, Thaddeus, Philip, Simon, Bartholomew, Judas Iscariot

Jesus, Son of God, did ask
Men to help him with God's task
Peter, Andrew, James and John,
Fishermen and Capernaum
Thomas and St. Matthew, too
Philip and Bartholomew.
James, his brother Thaddeus
Simon and one named Judas.
Twelve disciples here were all
Following the Master's call.

The Great Commandment (Matthew 22:37-40)

And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets."
