SANCTUARY: The area set apart by the church for services of worship.
CHANCEL: Area in the front of the sanctuary raised by steps where the pulpit, table, and baptismal font are located.
NARTHEX: Area in the back of the sanctuary where people wait before the worship service begins.
BAPTISMAL FONT: A receptacle to hold water for the administration of baptism.
PULPIT: The piece of furniture from which the minister preaches.
COMMUNION TABLE: Always in the center of the church in the Reformed tradition, the table reminds us of the sacrament of the Lord's Supper even when it is not celebrated every Sunday.
AMEN: Means literally "so be it" or "truly".
GARTH: At Third Church, this refers to the large stairwell area between the sanctuary and the education building. It can also refer to the grassy area outside this stairwell area, between the chapel and the sanctuary.
CHAPEL: Our smaller sanctuary, which is connected to the East Avenue side of the education building.
