Care
"Beloved,
let us love one another." -- 1 John 4:7a
The care for members, family and friends of
Third Presbyterian Church is coordinated by the Board
of Deacons, a body
of 26 ordained officers elected by the congregation.
The Deacons organize congregational care in five primary
areas:
- Hospitality Ministry
- coordinates care for
those hospitalized or dealing with loss;
- oversees Feasting on
Friendship, providing home-prepared and frozen meals for quick response
to those in need of immediate support;
- coordinates delivery of flowers from the Sunday worship
services and flowers to home-bound before Easter and Christmas;
- sponsors the very
popular Coffee Hour following Sunday worship services.
- Ongoing Care Ministry
- oversees care
of those who are homebound or in nursing facilities. The
deacons visit parishioners, coordinate an annual luncheon for seniors,
and gatherings at various sites such as Valley Manor, St. John's
Meadow, The Highlands and Cloverwood.
- Prayer and Spiritual Life Ministry
- maintains the Prayer Cordon;
- provides educational opportunities such
as pastoral care luncheons for the congregation.
- Youth ministry
- ministers to youth in the
congregation and plans events for them such as brunch for graduating
high school seniors;
- organizes care packages for college freshmen.
- Parish Ministry
- a
program of congregational care focusing on geographic neighborhoods to
foster better communication within the large, Third Church community.
Within those broad areas of care, responsibilities are structured by
Coordinators who plan and supervise them,
recruiting the help of all the Deacons as needed.
