2007 Annual Report The Board of Deacons

2007 was a year of change for the Board of Deacons. We bid farewell to Deborah Hughes, Interim Assistant Pastor for Congregational Care, and a few months later were happy to welcome Jamie Kenyon, Interim Pastor for Deacons / Pastoral Care. The ongoing presence and able ministry of Parish Visitor Pam Foye provided stability during the changes. Pam continues to be a source of support and wisdom as we seek to serve the congregation on a one-to-one basis.

The current Board of Deacons is made up of 26 (including two youth Deacons) enthusiastic, dedicated and caring members who are supportive not only of their parish and the congregation as a whole, but also of each other.A sense of camaraderie and friendship permeates our meetings and events.

The work of the Deacons includes:

Weekly
The Deacons deliver chancel flowers to hospitalized members .
The Deacons host the increasingly popular coffee hour after worship.
Monthly
A Deacon coordinates and enables a Songfest at Valley Manor, with as many as 40 of the residents now attending.
As requested
The Deacons coordinate and staff receptions following Memorial Services.
March
The Deacons delivered lilies to 70 homebound members.
May
The Deacons hosted an afternoon Senior Tea at the Highlands of Pittsford.
The Deacons hosted a pastoral care luncheon with a speaker for the entire Congregation.
June
The Deacons hosted an afternoon Senior Tea at St John's  Meadows.
The Deacons prepared, hosted and served a brunch for the graduating High School seniors and their families.
September
The Deacons prepared, hosted and served the Heritage Luncheon to celebrate the contribution of our elder members with 74 attending.
October
The Deacons coordinated a daylong bus trip to Corning as a way for our members to make connections with other members.
November
The Deacons hosted an afternoon Senior Tea at Cloverwood.
The Deacons supplied items for and packaged first-semester care packages for our 18 College Freshmen.
December
The Deacons delivered poinsettias to 70 homebound members.

The congregation is kept informed of our activities through The Deacon’s Bench, a monthly column in the Messenger. We support both the Food Cupboard and the Feasting on Friendship freezer with regular contributions. The Deacons provide a representative to the Nominating Committee. In order to better assist our parish members, we seek to increase our understanding and skills through in-service training from the Pastor and Parish Visitor.

The following Deacons are currently serving as coordinators –
